Evaluation tasks
Evaluation is a standard tool used for programme- and project management in a broad variety of fields, particularly in development cooperation. Methods of empirical social research are used to gather the required information on programme performance and impacts and make assessments based on verifiable criteria for decision making on measures to enhance social betterment. Evaluations contribute to making processes transparent, to document effects and to show interrelationships, ultimately facilitate decision-making to improve evidence-based communication between various stakeholders.
Target group
The English-language Master's programme is aimed at professionals and executives in the area of evaluation, at professionals who work on evaluation tasks in organisations, administration or ministries and as independent or self-employed consultants.

The legal and organisational framework of Master (Blended Learing) of Evaluation (MABLE) is defined in the examination regulations.
The distance learning programme's scientific directors are Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Meyer (Saarland University) and Prof. Dr. Reinhard Stockmann (Saarland University). The distance learning programme Master (Blended Learning) of Evaluation (MABLE) is taught in cooperation with the Center for Evaluation (Ceval) in Saarbrücken as well as Saarland University's Faculty of Empirical Human Sciences and Economic Science.
The distance learning programme Master (Blended Learning) of Evaluation (MABLE) is accredited to award the academic degree Master of Arts (M.A.). The programme received system accreditation through Saarland University's "UdS-Qualitätspass". Information on the accreditation of the study programme is also provided in the database of Akkreditierungsrat (the Accreditation Council).
Distance learning programmes are basically defined by the fact that students do not physically attend the institution of higher education, instead the institution of higher education comes to them. Both programme organisation and the didactically prepared learning materials are based on the concept of independent learning: the learners are supported in taking personal responsibility for their own learning process by a teaching-learning arrangement that consists of a combination of self-learning materials, on-campus phases and online-based interactions in the online campus. Each programme has an own virtual learning environment within the online campus that accompanies the students for the duration of their course. During the on-campus phases, the students have the opportunity to consolidate and substantiate the self-taught content in the context of practical classes and group work and to further discuss their acquired skills and knowledge in consideration of current issues.
